Today we had the first ever True Botanica Chili Cookoff! Three TB coworkers brought in their special batches of chili. What made it so great? Each of the batches were very different from the others.

PhiliaPhilia's Chili
My chili is a little different than one might expect-it is called ‘white chili’. Made with three different kind of beans (cannellini, navy, and garbanzo beans) shredded chicken, fire roasted green peppers, and fresh herbs from the garden like oregano, basil and parsley. I made honey cornbread muffins made with local honey to go with it.

HeidiHeidi's Chili
Mine was your traditional ground beef Chili with diced tomatoes, black and kidney beans, red pepper, celery seed, plenty of onions, garlic, and 1 small Jalapeño (because I’m a chicken when it comes to spicy food).  This recipe is extra delicious with cheese and a healthy serving of sour cream.

AlyssaAlyssa's Chili
I made a basic recipe using mild, medium and hot beans, diced tomatoes, ground turkey and a blend of various spices (including the True Life Coarse Pepper). I also brought macaroni noodles and Fritos corn chips in to add on top (with lots of cheese and sour cream of course).

So, any guesses on who was chosen as the winner? Well of course it was a tie because all three were so different it was difficult to choose just one! Plus, it was great just to take time out of our busy day to sit down and enjoy a lunch together as a team.

Do you have a special recipe you’d like to share? If so, post it or email info@truebotanica.com.

Happy cooking!

What can we do better in regards to diabetes?

Perhaps the one most dramatic improvement we could strive for would be to increase our understanding of the spiritual dimension of this disease (but even more of sugar, as a substance, as such). How can we strengthen our thinking, feeling and willing in such a specific way that the physical symptoms will respond to our satisfaction. Generalities like relaxation, etc are not enough, just like saying to ourselves that we should have a “good” diet would not be considered acceptable if left at that level.

In this respect the very detailed work of Rudolf Steiner, which he calls Anthroposophy, is excellent. It demands some persistence in “getting it” but it’s well worth the effort. The surprising thing is that coming closer to having a feeling for the unseen makes us so much better at observing the seen. As we were asked to say for today: “why not make today the day we start working on it”.

If I would have to pick one, just one, great thing that I have seen people do who want to maintain a better health in this regard it is to add a nutritional supplement containing berberine to the rest of the proper diet and life style changes. This natural plant extract obtained from herbs like barberry, goldenseal and others has nearly miraculous properties at many levels. Before you take it though make sure you use a full spectrum high quality formula.
