Bike to Work Week

This week is Bike to Work Week. Read why one True Botanica coworker, Heidi, bikes to the True Botanica office whenever she can.

Heidi with Bike

YES!! It is finally warm enough outside to ride my bike-and I’m going to ride it everywhere!!  I’ll explore my new neighborhood, run errands, grab an ice cream cone, RIDE TO WORK!  If you didn’t already know, this week (May 13-17) is “Bike To Work Week” and my personal goal is to bike my 25 mile round-trip commute 2 days this week, and at least once a week every week for the remainder of the summer.  There are so many great reasons to bike to work: eliminate hassles with parking, avoid rush hour congestion, reduce air pollution, and of course I must mention the great health benefits!  Why pay for a Gym membership when you can get your cardio in during your commute?  The first step is planning your route- safety should be your top priority.  Then commit to a date, check the weather obsessively (including wind speed—very important), wake up early, and go!

Start Your Own Vermicomposting Project!

It’s contaigous!  Now two True Botanica co-workers have gone greener and started their own indoor vermicomposting projects!

Heidis Compost Close Up of Worm

By definition, Vermicomposting is the process of using worms to help break down organic waste.  Worms speed-up the composting process by digesting our wasted organic matter, breaking it all down into a water-soluble, nutrient-rich substance called vermicompost.  This resulting substance can be harvested and used as a fertilizer for your garden!

Tips on starting your own Vermicompost project:

  • Both pre-made bins and Composting worms (like Red Wigglers) are available to order online, but building your own bin is also an option.Philia Compost
  • Make sure that the bin is not air tight, and that air is able to circulate
  • To keep pests like fruit flies away, you’ll want to bury the scraps that you add to the bin.  It’s a good idea to keep a trowel or a small gardening shovel nearby.
  • Avoid adding meat and dairy products- these may attract pests and create a foul odor.
  • Keep in a cool, dark place- basements are perfect.
  • In warmer months, the compost bin can be moved to a shady spot outside, but be careful not to allow the bin to get too cold or too hot.

A Healthy Twist for your Super Bowl Game Day

With the Super Bowl taking place this weekend, we decided to ask YOU for some of your favorite Game Day recipes for a chance to win a FREE True Life Pepper. One True Botanica follower, Elizabeth, sent in this delicious and healthy recipe. Consider trying our True Life Sea Salt and Pepper for extra flavor and nutrients!  Sea Salt and Pepper

You will need:
1 Large Head of Cabbage
1.5 Pounds Of Ground Turkey
1 Red Bell Pepper, 1 Green Bell Pepper
1 Small Onion
Salt and Pepper, Garlic Salt
2 Cups of White Rice cooked

Core the cabbage and boil the whole head for 3-5 minutes. While that is boiling cook the ground turkey until brown. Chop the bell peppers and onions in small pieces. Then add to the ground turkey when its cooked. Add the white rice after that and mix well. Add the salt, pepper, and garlic salt. When the cabbage is finished take a piece off and add a couple of spoon fulls of the mixture. Wrap up and repeat. Put in a pan and cook 350 degrees until a little brown. You can also add your favorite spaghetti sauce on top for a yummy finish! Enjoy!!

True Botanica Gets Crafty

– Valentine Idea –
Boswellia Lip Balm Holder

With Valentine’s Day approaching, the True Botanica team thought it would be fun to try out a new craft idea with our Boswellia Lip Balm. This fun (and easy) project is the perfect gift for your Valentine.

Supplies (feel free to get creative, but here are the supplies we used)

DIY Lip Balm collage 2

Felt
Card Stock
Construction Paper (optional for decorating)
Eyelet
Sewing Machine or Needle and Thread
Glue Stick
Scissors
Ribbon/Yarn (optional)

Instructions

Again, use your creative intuition, but the basic process is you want to sew a piece of felt to another piece of felt or piece of card stock so that the Boswellia Lip Balm fits snug inside. We added an eyelet to the top in order to tie a ribbon. As you can see, there are many different ways you can create this Lip Balm Holder, as long as the Lip Balm can be held in place, you’ve done it correctly!

News You Can Use

News You Can Use

A new study published in the prestigious JAMA shows:

A multivitamin a day may indeed keep the doctor away.

(Or maybe require calling him only later – because you are healthier)

October 17, 2012

A first of its kind randomized clinical study showed that 15,000 doctors, aged over 50, significantly improved their health by just taking one tablet daily of Centrum Silver, a multi vitamin and mineral nutritional supplement.

True Botanica is offering a multi vitamin/multi mineral formula (Multi-Action Vitamin Mental Clarity II without Iron) that is nearly identical to Centrum Silver except that it also contains the following ingredients that give it major additional advantages:Multi-Action Vitamins Mental Clarity II

  • Bioperine® – increases the absorption and increases the blood levels of most major vitamins and nutrients. It is also a major thermal nutrient, meaning it energizes the metabolism.
  • Trace Minerals – they constitute one of the major nutritional deficiencies in the American diet.
  • A special preparation of bio-dynamic herbal preparations that are meant to energize the life forces in general.
  • A number of supplemental ingredients for stimulating the mind: alpha lipoic acid, choline, B12-in the methylcobolamine form and the herb guarana.
